Funding guide
How to fund a gaga pit at your school.
A gaga pit is a small project. The kit is $499 or $549 with free delivery, plus timber from a local supplier (around $500 for a small pit up to around $1,000 for a full-size one, depending on size, supplier and region). Most schools find the money in one of five places.

Short on time?
The five options, below.
The pack goes into more detail. These are the five places most schools find the money.
Option 1
The school’s own budget.
Grounds, equipment and wellbeing budgets often cover a project this size. You know the cost up front: we issue an instant numbered PDF quote with our ABN, valid for 30 days, so you can raise a purchase order against it. Our purchase order guide covers the paperwork.
Option 2
Parents and friends or a fundraising committee.
One fun run, sausage sizzle or trivia night can cover a project this size. Bring the quote with you, so the committee can see exactly what the money buys and how fast it can be built: most of a day for two people.
Option 3
A student council pitch.
Gaga is a game students ask for by name, so a pitch from the student representative council can carry real weight with school leadership. Students can use our games page and rules guide to show how the pit would be used at recess.
Option 4
Local grants.
Many councils and community organisations run small grant rounds for schools and community recreation. Rules, amounts and dates vary, so check your own council’s website. A numbered quote is the document most grant applications ask for.
Option 5
Sport and wellbeing funding programs.
Some programs, such as Sporting Schools, can pay for certain equipment as part of an approved program. Eligibility depends on the program, so ask your program coordinator or funding administrator. We cannot promise a grant, and nothing here is funding advice.
Put it in writing
What to include in your request.
Name the spot, the size and the price: “We would like a gaga pit near [location]. It is an octagon about 5.8 m across, built from steel brackets and treated pine. The kit costs [$549 / $499] plus local timber, delivery is free, and it can be built in about a day. Our quote number is [number].”
