How these numbers are worked out

Each wall is one sleeper long, so side length and sleeper length go together. An octagon is about 2.4 times its side length across, flat to flat. The planning space adds 1.5 m of clear room on every side. Every pit uses 8 sides, so the sleeper count is 8 times the number of rows: 3 rows for 60 cm walls, 4 rows for 80 cm walls. Sides up to 1.8 m use 1.8 m lengths; longer sides use 2.4 m lengths, cut to size.
